What should you know about this monument?

The Royal Atarazanas were originally built as shipyards (S. XIII) for the construction of ships or boats and different types of galleys. The area in which it It is located is only 1 meter above sea level, which during this time could be beneficial for the transfer of boats. In addition, he was in an area next to both the Torre del Oro and de la Plata. It is a building built in brick of Gothic-Mudejar style. In the inner zone of the same, it has large ships connected to each other by different arches followed by pillars that make up an aqueduct. It is curious, since the layout of these ships is oriented perpendicular to the river.

What are the Royal Atarazanas today?

Today, there are only 7 of the existing ships in their origin; since they were demolished for the construction of what is known as Hospital de la Caridad, and the building of the Delegation of the Treasury. During the 18th century the artillery was transformed, giving some of the ships as a place of storage or as a warehouse for army materials. Later, in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, improvement and remodeling of the facilities would be carried out. It will be later, specifically in 1969 when it will be declared a National Monument. A year later it will cease to be an Artillery factory to have other uses. After a few years, in 1993 it will become in the hands of the current Andalusian Government, giving it a new approach to host cultural activities.
