Visits to the Torre del Oro Visits to the Torre del Oro

Visits to the Torre del Oro - ScheduleLa Torre del Oro began to be built in 1220 and it took almost a year to complete it. Its main functions were to defend the port and the Alcazar of Seville.

This 36-meter-high tower is of Almohad origin and is located on the Paseo de Colón, next to the Guadalquivir River and the Maestranza Bullring.

Formerly it was used as a chapel dedicated to San Isidoro de Sevilla but later it began to be used as a prison. At present it contains the Naval Museum of Seville, where there are exposed models, nautical charts and all kinds of historical documents. Its name is due to the brightness it gives off due to the mortar of lime and straw used in its construction.
