Holy Week 2014 will be held from 13th to 20th April, is a tradition that goes back centuries in this city. Nothing had to do the old Holy Week and the current; processions were made with the parish cross and a banner depicting a mystery of the Passion, today the processions that run throughout Seville are truly different. Each of the steps represent scenes from the life of Jesus of Nazareth since its entry into Jerusalem until his crucifixion, death and resurrection. They are authentic works of sculpture.

Holy Week in Seville 

There is a part of the course that is common to all brotherhoods, known as the Official Race, which is a procession which is made by the Cathedral and emblematic streets of the city center, including the neighborhoods of the Campana the Sierpes street, Plaza de San Francisco and the Avenue of the Constitution; where there are chairs to watch the processions. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and on this day the inhabitants of the city are dressed in their best clothes, having a tradition or superstition, and it is very popular and is to wear new clothes that day. On Holy Thursday we see women dressed in black in mourning for the death of Jesus. There is a very special day this week to all the inhabitants of Seville and is known as The Madrugá (holy dawn Friday), in the procession that make the most emblematic of the city confraternities throughout the morning until noon. In this day for more than 24 hours brotherhoods do their penance station by the Andalusian capital, from Thursday to Good Friday without interruption. The most famous of the Madrugá are La Macarena, El Gran Poder, Esperanza de Triana and The Gypsies.
